What’s this Chandrayaan – 2?
Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second lunar exploration mission after Chandrayaan-1, which will be lifted by bahubali of space launch vehicles, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III.(GSLV Mk-III).
Ritu Kridhal and M Vanitha are leading the project and mission of the chandrayaan – 2.

Ritu Karidhal is an Indian scientist working with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Also alumni of IISc.
She was a Deputy Operations Director to India’s Mars orbital mission, Mangalyaan.She has been referred to as a “Rocket Woman” of India.
The Project Director is M Vanitha, an electronics systems engineer, shouldering the entire responsibility of the Chandrayaan-2.

Objectives of the Mission :
- The primary objectives of Chandrayaan-2 are to demonstrate the ability to soft-land on the lunar surface.
- Quantify the water available on the moon’s surface.
- Map its Topography, to explore chemicals and minerals such as magnesium, iron,and Helium.
- Chandrayaan-2 will inform the location and abundance of lunar water for exploitation by the future lunar base proposed by the Artemis program.

Vikram lander :
The mission will be sending 20 Kg wheeled rover to the moon’s surface, to examine the lunar surface.
Significance :
1.Indigenous mission: 13 instruments from India, one instrument from US space agency, NASA.
2.Future Space Exploration: mission will also expand the country’s footprint in spaceas moon is the perfect test-bed for proving technologies required for future space exploration
