Somethings about Bose and his student partha ghose.
Satyendra Nath Bose
The Creator of Quantum Statistics
Sathyendra nath bose ( 1894 – 1974 ) was Indian physicist who put forward a theory which explains the behavior and characters from subatomic level in its particle stage. He visualized that photons,A packets of energy, which actually perform differently….are much more interesting.
He was the important person and stands in the lines of people who laid solid foundation to the quantum theory of Einstein and Bohr with many physicists of 19th centaury. Einstein recognized him as a gem of Indian physics.
below is the letter to Einstein by bose.
Respected Sir, I have ventured to send you the accompanying article for your perusal and opinion. I am anxious to know what you think of it. You will see that I have tried to deduce the coefficient 8π ν2/c3 in Planck’s Law independent of classical electrodynamics, only assuming that the ultimate elementary region in the phase-space has the content h3. I do not know sufficient German to translate the paper. If you think the paper worth publication I shall be grateful if you arrange for its publication in Zeitschrift für Physik. Though a complete stranger to you, I do not feel any hesitation in making such a request. Because we are all your pupils though profiting only by your teachings through your writings. I do not know whether you still remember that somebody from Calcutta asked your permission to translate your papers on Relativity in English. You acceded to the request. The book has since been published. I was the one who translated your paper on Generalised Relativity.
He himself appreciated the works of Bose. Bose become household name only when he got international recognition…by German physicists. Bose learnt German and he is the first person to translate works of Einstein to English, this was his most significant effort in helping Indian other budding scientists to learn them. Einstein later developed Bose’s ideas and thoughts into calculations which now known as Bose Einstein statistics.
Bose made his birth place india to feel proud… When Boson’s made historical moment recently, which helped to understand physics and fate of universe/cosmology in much deeply.
During my visit to listen public lectures, I went for listening Einstein’s portrait – a drama in NIAS ( National Institute of Advanced Studies ) Indian institute of science. IISc Bangalore. I was fortunate to meet the student of sathyendra nath bose . Partha Ghose, FNASc, is an Indian physicist, author, philosopher, musician and former Professor at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in Kolkata.
Most Celebrated theoretical physicist of India. Sir ghose talked with me about physics and I I asked many questions, he was very humble to reply me,that’s amazing for a small student. That is for me. Will share many things in next post about partha ghose.
